"We often get called in when
regular medicine can't do
anything. That's when being
an organ mechanic is
a beautiful thing."

Dr. Jean-Pierre Barral speaking
about Visceral Manipulation
to Time Magazine

How Does Visceral Manipulation Work?

Visceral Manipulation evaluates the entire body to locate the source of the problem. It does not focus solely on the site of pain or dysfunction.

Underneath the pain or diagnosis is a compensatory pattern created by the body with the initial source of the dysfunction often being far from where the pain is felt.

Pain and dysfunction can be caused by restrictions and unhealthy compensations.

Visceral manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that releases restrictions and unhealthy compensations. The treatment involves gentle compression, mobilization and elongation of the tissues.

These gentle manipulations can improve the functioning of individual organs, the systems the organs function within, and the structural integrity of the entire body.

How is Visceral manipulation Performed?

How Is Visceral Manipulation Performed?

Visceral Manipulation is characterized by high precision and minimal force.

Visceral Manipulation is based on the specific placement of soft manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues.

Due to the delicate and often highly reactive nature of the visceral tissues, gentle force precisely directed reaps the greatest results. As with other methods of manipulation that affect the body deeply, Visceral Manipulation works only to assist the forces already at work.

The treatment involves skin-to-skin contact; therefore the patient is often lying and/or sitting on a treatment table with their abdomen exposed.

This therapy is performed within a relaxed, comfortable, private setting.
